Only tattoos for Beckham

David Beckham sure has some good friends. His tattoo artist in England is one of them.

Rebecca Loos recently went into the tattoo parlor that David used to go to, and was turned away. Three years ago she said she had an affair with David when he was playing for Real Madrid and she was working for the Beckham´s as a personal assistant for Becks himself. It was never confirmed, but now she's the enemy of the Beckham's.

Motorola S9 David Beckham Fitness Music Pack review

We have seen the S9 headset before, bundled with the Motorola Z8, here on Pocket-lint. Motorola have now teamed up with David Beckham and launched a Fitness Music Pack. But is this a welcome accomplice as you pound the pavement? We get running to find out.

The main feature of the fitness pack is the Motorokr S9 headset. The S9 is a Bluetooth behind-the-head type headset, i.e., it loops over your ears and round the back of your head. As this is a wireless design, all the technological magic needs to be contained in the band, hence the blob at the back.

Beckham backing Manchester United

David Beckham will be filled with tension and trepidation Wednesday morning - from the comfort of his own couch as Manchester United take on Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League final.

"Without a doubt I will be watching nervously. We have got a day off from training, so I will be enjoying that and sit in front of the television and hopefully watching Man United beat Chelsea."

"It will be an electric atmosphere and having two English teams in the European Cup final for the first time makes it extra special. I just hope United go and do it now."

"I always think Man United deserve to win everything because I am a United fan," he said. "They have got a great team, with great players all the way through the team - not just their top players.

"There is an incredible team spirit which flows with the history of the club, and the fans deserve things like this because they support the team like no other around the world."

"What helps is when you have already got some silverware under your belt," Beckham said. "That really settles you going into a big game like this because the European Cup final is a huge game.

"They have got the confidence of winning the league. They have got the top spot which is a huge thing in England. They have got a big lift and I hope they go and take this as well."

Galaxy victory over FC Dallas 5-1

The Canadian Press: Edson Buddle's hat trick leads Galaxy over FC Dallas 5-1
Edson Buddle's hat trick leads Galaxy over FC Dallas 5-1

FRISCO, Texas — Edson Buddle had three goals, and the Los Angeles Galaxy scored four times in a span of 14 minutes in a 5-1 victory over FC Dallas on Sunday.

Buddle's second goal gave the Galaxy a 4-0 lead in the 39th minute. His final goal, in the 85th minute, was assisted by David Beckham and Landon Donovan, who had two assists.

Beckham received a yellow card in the 76th minute after he got into a shoving match with Adrian Serioux and Arturo Alvarez of FC Dallas (2-3-3). Serioux was given a red card and ejected.

"It was a terrible tackle. I could have broken my leg," Beckham said. "It's not my decision to give out cards. The player (Serioux) was saying, 'Welcome, baby, welcome,' afterward."

It was Beckham's second yellow card in two Texas appearances, both sellouts. He received one in an exhibition game March 15 after an altercation with FC Dallas midfielder Andre Rocha.

Beckham rejected the notion raised by some that he's been the target of dirty plays in the MLS.

"You either cry about it or get on with it, and it's my motto to get on with it," he said.

Buddle's first goal came in the 31st minute when he dribbled between three defenders before firing a left-footed shot into the left corner of the net from about 18 yards to give the Galaxy (3-3-2) a 2-0 lead.

Los Angeles took a 3-0 lead on an own goal after Donovan's shot from outside the left corner of the penalty box bounced into the net off the leg of FC Dallas captain Duilio Davino.

Chris Klein gave the Galaxy a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute after he fired a shot from 15 yards into the left corner of the goal.

Dominic Oduro scored on a header in the 54th minute from outside the top of the goalie's box for the only FC Dallas goal.

Real Madrid deserved Spanish league title win, says Beckham

Real Madrid deserved Spanish league title win, says Beckham

MADRID (AFP) — Real Madrid fully deserved their second consecutive Spanish league title win, Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder David Beckham, who left the club last year, said on Saturday in an interview.

Asked by Spanish sports daily Marca if he still keeps track of his former team, the former England skipper said: "Of course man, and I am very glad for all my former team-mates at Madrid."

"They have dominated the league and are the clear winners," the 33-year-old added.

Real won their 31st championship on May 4 with a 2-1 win over Osasuna. It was the first time that they won back-to-back titles since 1990.

The club's next match was against arch rivals FC Barcelona who according to tradition honoured the new champions as the squad entered the Bernabeu pitch in Madrid.

It was the first time in 20 years that Barcelona formed the passage of honour for their rivals - Real rubbed salt into their wounds by thrashing them 4-1.

"For Barca to form the corridor for them at the Bernabeu must have been a really strange feeling for the players," said Beckham.

Beckham joined Galaxy in July 2007 after spending four seasons at Real Madrid on a 250-million-dollar, five-year contract.

Real's last match of the season is set for Sunday but it is in doubt as players from Levante have announced they will strike unless they are paid money owed to them dating back to last season.

The Vancouver Whitecaps won the friendly match against Galaxy 2-1 Tuesday night. In the 43rd minute, Beckham sent a cross-field pass that Alan Gordon headed past goalie Srdjan Djekanovic to tie the game at 1.

Playing on a sore foot, the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star also took a 30-yard free kick that just missed the near post as flashes flickered among the crowd of 37,104 at Commonwealth Stadium.

"Having a hand in the goal today helped," Beckham said. "I played a few nice passes. Overall it was enjoyable. I enjoyed it."

Beckham expected to miss Toronto game

Toronto soccer fans will likely have to wait a little bit longer to see Beckham playing because he has been named to England's squad for a pair of exhibition games, meaning in all likelihood he will miss Galaxy's road game against Toronto FC on May 31.

England plays the U.S. at Wembley Stadium on May 28 before travelling to play Trinidad and Tobago on June 1.

Last year, the soccer star was injured and sitting on the bench when the Galaxy played Toronto FC at BMO Field.

Beckham could play in Toronto on July 24 for the MLS all-star game when the league's all-star team takes on West Ham United.

Before then, English midfielder will play on Tuesday when the Galaxy play the Vancouver Whitecaps in an exhibition game at Edmonton's Commonwealth Stadium.

David and Victoria Beckham hitch a ride on Giorgio Armani's private jet

And George Clooney also comes along for the ride from LA to New York

David and Victoria Beckham were treated to a ride on Giorgio Armani's private jet at the weekend.

The couple were joined by George Clooney, 46, to fly 2,800 miles from LA to New York ahead of the star-studded Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute Gala on Monday night.

Posh and Becks, 33, are said to have had a hoot as they sipped on Cristal champagne during the flight.

‘George was only recently introduced to the Beckhams but they hit it off straight away,’ says a source. ‘He totally digs Victoria's dry, very British sense of humour and gets her jokes, which a lot of Americans don't.

‘They went out for dinner the evening before their flight but the trio really bonded on the plane, swapping gossip and doing hilarious impressions,' the source tells the Daily Mirror.

After the gala – where Victoria, 34, was criticised for her white, 80s-style Armani frock – the group went clubbing at the infamous Bungalow 8.

Beckham project swells page views for Cornish news site

David Beckham has helped a local newspaper website score an impressive tally of video views, thanks to an advert he filmed on the Isles of Scilly.

thisiscornwall.co.uk was the only regional news site to obtain footage from the new Adidas commercial, which sent Becks to train youngsters on the island. With just two teams on the island, they make up the smallest football league in the world.

The selection of clips, showing advert variations and an interview with the former England captain - have so far accounted for a whopping 80 per cent of video views in the ten days since they were uploaded.

The online platform for The Cornishman had originally covered the football star's visit to Scilly back in November, when it broke the story on its site.

A user generated content appeal on the homepage at the time of the visit meant it had a selection of reader pictures to add to its own come publication day.

Beckham player of the week

David Beckham was voted Major League Soccer's player of the week Monday (his team mate Landon Donovan got the same honor last week as well).

Becks was the star of Week 6, leading the Galaxy back from a two-goal deficit on the road to earn a 2-2 tie with Real Salt Lake on Saturday.

Quotes by David Beckham

"We're very family oriented so we've always wanted a big family,
which was weird because when we first got together we never even
discussed how many we wanted,"

"I was happy to start the game, but it was more about getting on the pitch, getting that 100th cap,"

"I'm like a little kid every time a free kick is given on the edge of the box,"

"The excitement comes into myself and most of the time I can score them."

"It's great to score a goal, usually I'm on the other end assisting,"

Decision on Beckham´s Galaxy expected in fortnight

The Auckland Regional Council and Oceania football heads expect to discover within the next two weeks whether plans to host David Beckham's Los Angeles Galaxy in Auckland later this year have been successful.

The ARC is leading a bid to attract the Galaxy to Auckland on the Major League Soccer club's end-of-season tour, with the Oceania Football Confederation keen to organise a regional All Stars team for the proposed match at Mt Smart Stadium.

The Los Angeles Galaxy are in negotiations with Football Federation Australia regarding a possible match in Australia, and a date in Auckland could be dependent on the success of those talks.

Beckham amazes, but U.S. far behind in soccer passion

Fans showed up to Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City to see the Los Angeles Galaxy play the local team -- and more particularly
international star David Beckham.

The final attendance total was 25,500, making it the largest crowd
for a non-doubleheader regular-season contest in RSL history.

Hundreds of those fans waited for nearly an hour after the contest,
hoping to catch a glimpse of the most famous player in MLS.

But as impressive as it was, I couldn't help but think that it
showed just how far the sport has to go to be a viable option in the
United States.

Beckham scores twice to deliver draw for Galaxy

David Beckham scored two goals to deliver a 2-2 draw for the Los Angeles Galaxy Salt Lake City in a MLS game on Saturday.

With Los Angeles trailing by two goals early in the first half, Beckham took advantage of a couple of defensive lapses and posted his first two-goal outing since arriving in the North American football league.

"It was a good game in the end," Beckham said. "I think that we started off terrible the first 20 minutes. We didn't get close enough to them as a team. We looked scared of them.

"And then a couple of tackles started going in, and we livened up," he said. "We got ourselves back into the game."

Becks bends it past 33

Tanvir Khan

People generally tend to relate the name David Beckham with fashion. Someone who loves to sport tattoos on every inch of his skin and changes his hairstyle as often as the weather in London. It is often said that he is more of a socialite than a football star. All this is maybe because he is happily married to Spice Girls pop star Victoria Beckham and has three sons with her: Brooklyn Joseph Beckham, Romeo James Beckham and Cruz David Beckham. He has friends in Hollywood and a mansion beside that of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes in Beverly Hills.

David has appeared on innumerable magazine covers and is also associated with brands like Coca Cola and IBM. He was hailed as a metro sexual by the man who invented the term. Such is the popularity of Beckham that Google claimed that David Beckham was searched more than any other sports topic in 2003 and 2004. It is always easy to under estimate the player's abilities. His contribution to the game has more often than not been overshadowed by his activities off the field.

But those who have a tendency to associate Beckham to the realm of fashion only seem to have forgotten his contribution to the England national team as well as his club performances. David won the PFA Young Player of the Year award in only the second year after he debuted for England. Twice has he been the runner-up for FIFA World Player of the Year. What has to be understood is that he is a football star who indulges in outdoor activities and not a socialite who occasionally plays football!

A few highlights of his career include his captaincy stint with Manchester United and 58 caps as skipper for the England team. He also became the first Brit player to appear in 100 Champions League matches. Despite playing regularly with Manchester United, David did not get a berth in the national squad before Euro 1996. He was part of a group of young players in Manchester United and got a chance with the Red Devils only when experienced players like Paul Ince, Mark Hughes and Andrei Kanchelskis retired. Alex Ferguson, who has been with the club for more than two decades, drew a lot of criticism when he introduced young players in the club rather than buying million dollar stars from other clubs. The icing on the cake for the critics was the woeful start for the Reds. They lost 3-1 to Aston Villa. The only goal for Manchester being struck by Beckham.

Bend it like Bekham

David Beckham scored a spectacular goal from half-line in a match against Wimbledon FC in 1996. For those who witnessed the once in a lifetime goal, there is no need to explain. For those who did not, here is a quick recap - David saw that the keeper Neil Sullivan was a long way out of his position, slowed down until the ball was just on the half line, and bang! The ball actually changed course midair and hit the nets. That was skill, foresight, practice, training & timing. Nothing to do with `luck`. The commentator in the match rightly said that it was a goal that`ll be talked about and replayed for years.

The story behind David Beckham's number 7 shirt might not be known to many. Eric Cantonna, the demi-god of English football, wore the number 7 shirt for Manchester United. He retired on May 18, 1997. Teddy Sheringham was to arrive to United from Tottenham Hotspur. Beckham picked up the number 7 jersey and left the number 10 for Sheringham. Since then, number 7 in football has been assosiated with the free-kick maestro.

His personal life was rocked by rumours of extramarital affairs in 2004 in a British tabloid News of the World that published that he had a fling with Rebecca Loos, his former personal assistant. Later an Australian model, Sarah Marbeck, claimed that she had slept with David on two occassions. The marriage with Posh somehow survived, many believe due to their kids.

On the field, Beckham was hit by contrversy when he kicked Diego Simeone of Argentina on his calf and was shown a Red Card by the referee. It happened after Simeone had fouled David's moves which made him furious. This incident was in a match of the1998 World Cup which ended in a draw and England crashed out in penalties. David Beckham, thus, saw himself in deep trouble as his effigies were burnt and he received death calls.

His career span includes stints with Manchester United from 1993 to 2003 during which he donned 265 caps. He scored 65 goals for the Reds and set up innumerable others. His next halt was Real Madrid where he stayed for four seasons netting 13 goals. In 2007, he moved to Major League Soccer's Los Angeles and became the highest paid MLS player in their history.

His move to LA Galaxy, undoubtedly, popularised the sport in America. Although he has not scored many goals for the club, he has helped in setting up quite a lot of them. His stint with LA Galaxy has not been very good as far as his fitness is concerned. He has been fighting it all to gain cent per cent fitness and get back on the pitch for the American club.

April 1999 - An angel on his back.
2000 - Hindi "Victoria" design on his left arm.
April 2002 - Roman numeral VII on right forearm.

Beckham is coming to Brisbane

Marco Monteverde May 02, 2008 12:00am

SPORTS superstar ... David Beckham. / The Courier-Mail

INTERNATIONAL superstar David Beckham is coming to Brisbane. Beckham and his LA Galaxy side will play Queensland Roar at Suncorp Stadium in November as part of the cashed-up American Major Soccer League club's end-of-season tour.

A similar match in Sydney last year between the Galaxy and Sydney FC attracted a crowd of more than 80,000.

Beckham kept up his end of the bargain by netting a spectacular free-kick from 25m out in his side's 5-3 loss.

Roar chief executive Lawrence Oudendyk and Football Federation Australia commercial operations head John O'Sullivan last night refused to confirm Beckham's second coming, but it is understood the fixture has been locked in.

The Galaxy will also play a match in New Zealand, but not against Wellington Phoenix, as was the case last year.

Beckham, who turns 33 today, is in his second season with the Galaxy, having joined the club from Spanish giant Real Madrid midway through LA's dismal 2007 campaign.

He started his career at Manchester United where he won several Premiership titles and a Champions League title in the 1990s.

Beckham is reportedly earning a staggering $172,000 a day at Galaxy.

His five-year deal has the capacity to earn him $153 million with the addition of endorsements.

Coached by former Dutch star Ruud Gullit, the Galaxy began its 2008 season on a positive note, with a 5-2 midweek win over Chivas USA lifting the LA outfit to second in the MLS Western Conference standings.

The Galaxy side includes Portuguese defender Abel Xavier and American forward Landon Donovan, who scored a hat-trick against Chivas.
